MANILA, Philippines – Lawmakers urged the House of Representatives committee on foreign affairs and national defense to look into the necessary actions to counter China’s massive reclamation activities in the West Philippine Sea.
Bayan Muna Partylist Reps. Neri Colmenares and Carlos Isagani Zarate on Wednesday filed House Resolution 2031, citing that the Philippines cannot rely on the “double-dealing United States of America” to defend its territory and exclusive economic zones (EEZ).
“While the Philippines raised diplomatic protests and has announced to bring the issue to the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea, President Benigno S. Aquino III was also quick to call on the United States to interfere in the regional dispute and come to aid the Philippines against China,” the resolution read.
