Taiwanese fishing boat runs aground off Batanes

A Taiwanese fishing boat ran aground in shallow waters off Batanes province in Northern Luzon on Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Wednesday.

In a  said five crew members – two Taiwanese and three Indonesians – were news item posted on its website, the Coast Guard rescued from the “FV Jui Fa Tsai.”

Citing initial information about the incident, the Coast Guard said the Taiwanese vessel ran aground at about 16 nautical miles northeast off Itbayat Island at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

The Coast Guard in Northeastern Luzon dispatched a search-and-rescue team to the area and issued a Notice to All Mariners (NOTAM) to assist the vessel’s crew.

It said the vessel’s crew members were rescued at 3:39 p.m. Tuesday, and the vessel was extracted from its grounding position.
